Over the last weekend of September, the Bridge Golf Foundation held its inaugural charity event at The Bridge, an exclusive 7300-yard Rees Jones-designed course in Bridgehampton, New York.
Most of the 80 guests that turned out for the opening night dinner and auction had a perfect evening to take in the majestic views of Sag Harbor and Shelter Island from the modern clubhouse.
Bob Rubin’s tastes in fast cars, pulp fiction and art are evident throughout the clubhouse and course that he opened in 2002. The Bridge is in many ways an indoor and outdoor gallery with the exacting curation of Rubin.
Maurice Dubois, a CBS News TV anchor, was the host at the Saturday dinner. There were short speeches by the foundation’s co-founders, Bob Rubin and Farrell Evans. And there were comments from David Banks, the President of the Eagle Academy Foundation, the entity that operates Eagle Harlem, where the foundation’s 20 young men are enrolled.
On Sunday, there was a 9am shotgun start underneath a perfect blue sky and lightning fast greens. The foursome of Woody Victor, Eric McLendon, Rohan Macfarlane and Randy Taylor won first prize in the Texas Shamble format.
No date for the 2016 event has been set, but the extraordinary success of the inaugural event is building demand for an annual showcase of the foundation’s work and its pillar organization, The Bridge.
