Our new STEM teachers Veeshan Narinesingh and Tiffani Kolozian got to know our students this week while studying Newton’s three laws of motion. Veeshan is a physics graduate student at the City College of New York, and Tiffani is finishing her physics education degree at City College.
Co-teachers Veeshan and Tiffani demonstrated Newton’s laws with several creative, hands-on experiments. In one, the students launched three balls of similar volume but different mass (ping pong ball, golf ball, and “almost” golf ball) to show that different masses result in different rates of acceleration when the force of the launch is constant.
In the next few weeks, the students will do more hands-on activities to demonstrate the physical laws at play in the game of golf. Students will perform experiments and collect and analyze the data.
