One of the great things about The Bridge Golf Foundation’s location is its proximity to all that Harlem and New York City have to offer. On Friday, our students made the short trip to Columbia University to spend time with the men’s golf team and catch a basketball game.
Coach Rich Mueller and his team held a Q&A with our young men. The Columbia players talked about what it’s like to be a student-athlete at an Ivy League university, and how important it is to balance education with the demands of their sport.
After the questions and answers, our young men were divided into teams and paired with Columbia golfers for a putting contest and closest-to-the-pin competition at the Lions’ team facility. The Columbia players showed our students their training rooms and even captured our students’ swing statistics on their launch monitors.
After spending time with the golf team, our students moved on to basketball, watching Columbia defeat Penn, 63-53, in front of a packed house.
“Our young men showed so much interest in the day,” said Teaching Professional Randy Taylor, “that some even talked about one day making it to the Ivy League ranks themselves!”
