September 2nd was a very special day in the young history of the Bridge Golf Foundation.
Farrell Evans, the organization’s co-founder and executive director, got the keys to the foundation’s new headquarters and gave staff a tour of the 2,400 square-foot Harlem-based facility, scheduled to open in the fall as The Bridge Golf Learning Center.
The facility will house the organization’s after school program and an indoor golf center. The center will provide three Trackman golf simulators and putting areas, offering for the first time in Harlem a superior indoor experience for golfers of all ages.
Led by Randy Taylor, a PGA apprentice with extensive teaching experience in both youth and adult programs, the Bridge Golf Learning Center will offer a range of services for players, including club fitting and lessons.
Golfers will also have the opportunity on the simulators to play famous courses, such as Pebble Beach, the Old Course at St. Andrews and Bethpage Black.
After the tour of the learning center, the foundation’s staff convened for its first planning session at a nearby restaurant.
On September 16th, the foundation will officially launch its after school program with 20 7th and 8th graders from the Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem. The boys will participate in golf instruction, a golf-focused STEM lab and a mentoring program. The program will be staged at the Harlem YMCA until construction is completed at the facility at 40 West 117th Street.
On September 26-27, the foundation will host its first charity event at The Bridge, a Rees Jones course in Bridgehampton, N.Y., where Robert M. Rubin, a Bridge Golf Foundation co-founder, is the principal owner.
