Video: Simple Drill to Fix the Shanks

Michael Mancz, teaching professional at The Bridge Golf Learning Center in Harlem, demonstrates his favorite drill to cure a case of the shanks. Simply place a tee just past the ball and practice half swings.

If you’re hitting the tee, you are either swinging too outside-in or too inside-out, both of which put you in danger of shanking. If you’re missing the tee, your swing path is solid, and you should be well on your way to curing your shanks. Practice this drill until you are consistently missing the tee and hitting the ball down the middle. (Note: A headcover, ball marker, or just about anything else can stand in for the tee.)
