Donte Jones, an 8th grader in our after-school program at The Bridge Golf Foundation, was the student master of ceremonies on Friday morning at Soaring Beyond, The Eagle Academy Foundation’s fifth annual awards breakfast.
In his talk, Donte took the packed room at Gotham Hall through his regular school day, which starts at his home on Roosevelt Island and ends at The Bridge Golf Learning Center.
Donte gave an excellent presentation, showing the charisma and skill that he exemplifies daily with us at The Foundation.
The keynote speaker was Hillary Clinton, who addressed the students and a large crowd that included David Dinkins, former mayor of New York City.
“Talent is universal, but opportunity is not, and that’s where you come in,” Clinton said.
Clinton, who has been a supporter of the Eagle Academy Foundation since its inception in 2004, also spoke directly to 30 Eagle scholars who will be graduating high school this spring.
“Your success was not given to you,” she said, “you earned it.”
Honorees at the breakfast were Dick Robinson, the chairman, president and CEO of Scholastic; and John Kim, the president of New York Life.
