Our Student-Athlete of the Month is Tariq Washington. Tariq’s dedication to bettering himself and his peers has been slow and steady, but it has not gone unnoticed. For quite some time, Tariq was able to get by on pure talent and intelligence, but he vastly improved this month because he realized he could do so much more. Once Tariq made the conscious effort to improve his attendance and participation, there was a nonstop upward trend toward success. Tariq’s grit and integrity are consistently on display, and I am optimistic that his path will continue to be filled with prosperity. – Reggie Mays, Jr., program coordinator
The golf team is pleased to see the growth and increased work ethic displayed by Tariq through the month of February. He continues to show positive energy, is always willing to help other team members, and is working very hard on his daily lessons. Golf is a hard sport to learn in a short period of time. Like many of our young men, this is the first time Tariq has picked up a golf club. Our coaching staff has been very impressed with his golf swing in his early stages of learning, and with how quickly he’s adapted to the game. – Randy Taylor, teaching professional
In STEM lab, Tariq showed a contagious enthusiasm over the past month. Throughout all of his experiments, he worked diligently with his teammates to understand the underlying principles and complete each task with precision. For the STEM team’s Black History Month presentation, Tariq got over some initial timidness to deliver a very poised and informative speech with his group. – Veeshan Narinesingh, STEM program leader
