At Saturday’s Water Fair, two groups from the Eagle Academy for Young Men of Southeast Queens will be presenting their scientific posters on climate change.
These students have been working for months with Oscar Flores, one of our Foundation’s STEM instructors, to learn about the hydrologic cycle and climate change, and how to interpret and present data using MATLAB, a computation software designed for scientists and engineers.
One group has focused on how climate change and location affect sea levels. The other has studied average precipitation in certain regions and for the Earth overall in relation to climate change.
Working with data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the students used MATLAB to analyze the data and create graphs and maps. These visuals and their written conclusions come together on their posters, which would pass muster at any academic conference.
