After getting its first PSAL win last week, our high school golf team came agonizingly close to another victory on Tuesday afternoon against Stuyvesant at Van Cortlandt Park.
After Jaden Jackson (2 up) and Juan Cortorreal (1 up) won their matches, and Antonio Cortorreal and Josiah Yoba lost close matches, it all came down to Zion Smith. Tied through four holes, Zion lost the fifth as darkness fell to lose the match, 1 down.
In the end, our young men had another great showing but lost, 3-2.
It was an especially impressive performance for Jackson, our left-handed freshman who usually plays as the sixth man. Filling in for Kyle Barthelmy, he won his first-ever high school match.
“When he first started in the program, Jaden came here holding a basketball every day,” said Coach Randy Taylor. “Now I hear he’s out practicing his golf swing while walking down the street.”
